Thanks Tz,

You get it!  I was grumpy at work today, mulling it over. I'm paying for it. I don't think they get a say. It's our place to say. I am open to that and not to Avesta managing my expression or anyone's creativity. If they do not like it, do not look at it.

The internet sucks, by the way. I said it. So have a lot of other people. It sucks since our last meeting, it will suck until our next meeting, and it will probably continue to suck. They would just prefer it sucked in silence.

If I don't hear from them tm, I will print my own newsletter and deliver. Because, you are right. Anyone can do what they want. They can do their own newsletter. I can do one, and so can anyone...

I think they should be held accountable for offering a service they are not delivering. That is what they need to manage!

Honestly, I scanned Megan's letter. Something about having open lines of communication, ironically, as I can't always get or send an email. Hmmmm.... (it just seemed like a lot of fluff, and can i fix this ie say that avesta is working on the internet. No, I honestly cannot say that! )

Maybe I should just free-style ie my newsletter for the residents. That is the way it is. I can print and deliver, $2.00, so what. I think that is what really needs to happen and then let Avesta do the management stuff, because honestly, it doesn't sit well to have an outsider manage my expression. Avesta needs to understand that this is not their place to manage. Particularly since they are not paying for it with time or money. That right there makes me the most irate. No say. I don't tell them how to manage.

So weird that they are So Tight at the sphincter. Let it go Bitches! Let It Go!!!

Hi Angela-

Nice newsletter! You're one busy beaver. In the future, may I make some suggestions?

1. I'll happily volunteer to proofread it - I used to write copy and edit.

2. "netiquette" was severely breached by your cc'ing everyone. The proper technique is to send it to yourself and BCC everyone. This way you don't expose our email addresses without permission, and you protect us from malignant software that collects email addresses from large cc fields.

3. Again, good job. I would be very grateful to you if I lived there, both for your efforts to bolster community and for keeping us all in touch with what's going on.

Yay!

Bill

P.S. I have extensive experience with building-wide WiFi/internet service so feel free to bring me in on this issue...

Hello Barbara and Richard,

I'm not able to get the website up for a payday or two, as I need to upgrade my os (operating system) to download a ftp (file transfer protocol) to upload a website.

Today, I have sent out blurbs for First Friday at Oak Street Gallery. I apologize if you received this twice. I think my computer was melting...

Thursday when you are here, we can take pics, and design a graphic flyer for promotions, including another email invitation.

My friend Janet has offered to help me host and make goodies. We were thinking about strawberries, and dried apricots and dried pineapple dipped in chocolate,  perhaps some light vanilla meringues, and a spritzer (mango-lemonade...).

Does this sound good to you if we jump in and help from this angle?

Also, can you let me know when you will arrive Friday, as it will get congested to park a car downtown on nice days, and I will park my car in a space out front on the street, until you arrive, then move it to my assigned parking space under the building.

Talk soon,

Angela

Hi - Everything you are doing sounds wonderful! We are planning to be there at 10 am on Thursday - isn't that when the building guy will be there? We might hav to take both cars because of the furniture - so parking help will obviously be appreciated. The food idea sound great - I will make some little individual cheese cake things with lemon curd on top - really good! What else should we bring? Thanks again - see you Thursday unless I hear differently. b.

Hi Angela,

let me preface this by telling you Miss Me-shell approached me this morning, not the other way around.

i told her before she even started in with her side of the story that i was not interested in taking sides.

she talked about the gallery and parking, mainly about how awesome she is and how "her people and connections" are so important.

it seems like a bunch of twatty tawdry gossip when it comes right down to it and i don't want to repeat most of what she said because it was meaningless.

again there was much talk of her resume.  she offered to print it out for me.  no thanks.  seriously?  no thanks.

she basically said that Megan is unqualified for her position (although she seemed a bit confused as to what Megan actually does) and that someone such as herself would be better suited for that job.  and she is looking for a job right now, she no longer works at the Museum.  with all her people skills she would be great at the post office.

She has purchased a parking spot in the lot next to the building from the guy who owns it, his name is Tom and he apparently gives a lot of money to the Museum that she no longer works for.  She is getting a good deal on that and she mentioned that she might get a further discount if she became his "booty call".  How droll.

Me-shell does not seem to mind the idea of whoring her way to the top.  Or the middle.  Or wherever she gets to.

That's all for now.  It really upset me to have to be held hostage to her negative wanking but I was down in the lobby using the internet and could not get out of there until I was done.

Again I hope for the best but my expectations are very low.

Oh, her mantra is "I am a professional."  she said that this morning several times again.  maybe if she keeps saying it, it will come true.

omg. totally laughing here.

wonder how or why she lost her job? she had lost the one before that one.

"i'm a professional" egg carton tosser.

besides the opportunity for twisted amusement, maybe she will just fade away.

apparently she told dominick that she has been invited to lots of people's apartments here for dinner.

could we ever be so lucky if the chosen one chose us?

it would be funny to print a t-shirt that read : i'm a professional, too!

dom told me that she told cheryl she wouldn't show any art here if they didn't give her a parking spot, and took the art hanging outside her door down in protest.

i think she is making quite a wacky name for herself.

Tz,

I go to work tm at 12. Maybe I will see you before then.

Just got back from work, past midnight. While I was waiting for the elevator, a couple that lives on the 3rd floor came in, and so did the me-shell.  She was dressed in black and had her hoodie up. She seemed alert or vigilante / eyes open, focused, on a mission? (don't know).

I didn't make eye contact, asked the couple how they were. (TJ seems to infect my life outside of work :) And pushed floor 4, their 3, and then decided I didn't want to ride the elevator up to 4 with Me-shell, so pushed 2, to drop off 2 pieces of new white cardboard for my project, now instead of later.

Me-shell followed me off the elevator. I went in the door closest to my belongings and where my current pile of cardboard is. She stormed thru the other door, agitatedly fumbled for and flipped the lights. By that time, I was exiting, and decided to walk up to the 4th floor.

I honestly think something is wrong with her, like in the approximation of very wrong

It is like she is on a witch hunt, however she is the gnarly witch

Hey g'morning Angela,

I have to tell you that losing your job sucks and she could be reacting to that...I don't know how she left the Museum but I got the feeling she didn't give her two weeks notice and leave on good terms.  Also we are talking about someone whose world view is totally bound to the college that she attended for six years.  She is now 25 which means her entire life experience so far has been MECA.  I don't know where she has travelled, and she probably has done some jet-setting, but MECA is her touchstone - she mentions it every time she talks unless she is talking to a guy who she is trying to sleep with I guess.  And when you are that connected to your college (personal experience here) it is sometimes really hard to let go and move on - she mentioned that she still goes over there and uses them as a resource all the time.

At some point she will hopefully grow up.  Give her another 10 years and I might actually enjoy her company, who knows?

I believe avoiding her is the answer for me right now...I made potato salad last night in honor of our Nations Birthday!  Hooray!

See you soon,

tanya

Megan and Cheryl.

Thanks for the printed newsletters.

This is a communication for you and Cheryl, as it may concern you regarding Me-shell.

I just got back from work, past midnight. While I was waiting for the elevator, a couple that lives on the 3rd floor came in, and so did Me-shell.  She was dressed in black and had her hoodie up. She seemed alert or vigilante / eyes open, focused, on a mission? (don't know).

I honestly think something is wrong with her, like in the approximation of very wrong.

She did lose her job recently at the museum. Outside of that, I find her increasingly disturbing.

So, I hope this communique can walk the fine line of being informative without being a harbinger of gossip. That said, I really don't like her trailing me.

I met you at the Wood School open house. Enclosed is the newsletter for Oak Street Lofts and a blurb about this First Friday's curated show.

Would you consider writing a piece about applying for grant resources for our website and/or newsletter? Online, I can give you as much space as you would like. The website will go-live in about 1-2 months.

Hope things are going well. Perhaps I will see you and Brian at Art Walk.

Hmmm...regarding your article request, could you elaborate a little more? Would the angle be geared towards artists about where to find grants or about how to write/prepare a grant proposal?

Sorry cannot make it to any Art Walk on Friday...Brian and I leave for Boston to pick up his work at the Society of Arts & Crafts (SAC) gallery. He received an Artist Award from the SAC that included an exhibition of his work and the show just closed...

Please check out: facebook.com/brianreidfurniture and OH, if you would "like" his page, that would be even more fantastic.

Hope to see you again!

Hello Monica,

Checked out the facebook page. Really impressive: an artist and craftsman with original cajones. (hope that was moderately pc). Congratulations!

OSL (oak street lofts) has had full residency since June. I've volunteered to do the newsletter because I feel to create community, it needs to come from the inside (residence) out ,and not from the management in. The website is the next extension. There is a first floor gallery, and the aim is to promote it, as it is just off Congress Street and the walk way of First Friday.

The unique positioning of this building and space is that it is a non-profit. It was designed with the vision of interfacing with the community and particularly the arts district in which it is located. The residents have decided that they can show their own art in the space as well as curate other artists. The gallery space is closed off to the apartments without a key.

The front entrance to the gallery is open First Friday, and by appointment. While this is not ideal to show during regular business hours, OSL does not take a commission. Money cannot be exchanged in the gallery, but right outside the door. (semantics!) The other thing is, it is a free space to have a meeting, rehearsal, etc. The website will highlight this opportunity.

Of course, I think what you have to offer would be invaluable knowledge for artistically inclined people, and I would love to make it available on the website, if you are inclined.  When you ask me if the angle is to be geared towards artists about Where to find grants or how to write a proposal ... I would love both!

Is there anyway, that we can justify your effort? I am happy to build links to your website, credits, be an ambassador to make the gallery space available to you and other artists that may like to show ...

p.s. I didn't like you on facebook, as I do not have a facebook page, however it goes without saying, peerless effort and just desserts.

enjoy the 4th and boston.

I am now settled into my apt. and ready to help with the newsletter, as promised.  I can't make the tenant meeting in  July, but want to offer these items for the newsletter.

1) Tanya said she would be willing to be interviewed for the newsletter for August.  She has an interesting background (degree in theater arts, is from away, etc.)  Let me know.

2)  I would like to start a "Swap" corner.  I will start out by offering to swap four very good small storage units with drawers in exchange for something I could use for a coffeetable.  Anyhow, I could write an article offering the "Swap Corner" as a place to trade used items in good shape for something else -- or simply find them good homes.  What do you think?

3)  Tanya mentioned that she had a small boombox that people could use for background music during shows in the Oak Street Gallery space.  Thought I could write alittle blurb about that.

Let me know your thoughts.  Cathie Long

Hello Barbara and Richard,

This is the newsletter blurb for residents. Can you check this for accuracy:

This First Friday will be our first curated art show with Barbara Vanderbilt and Richard Curewitz. Barbara and Richard are partners in life and in art, having supplied custom tiles all over the world for over 25 years, including Ann Sacks Tile and other dealers across the country. They have combined their efforts to produce furniture and tile pieces for their business Gothic Tile (www.gothictile.com), as well as customized relief tile and sculptures.

Barbara's work with tile feeds her passion for shape and texture, and when she started working with pastels, she found this medium was an exciting fit. Her love of nature, especially the woods, is a great source of inspiration, providing many visual textures, as you will see in this exhibit of her landscape pastel drawings. Personally, I love the artful use of color and uplifting scenes of pioneering tangles of wood.

Richard, I am told, does not have a bio, as he is not "old enough." He told me himself. I can respect a neophyte approach to life, curious and anticipating a new discovery around every corner. That said, Richard is no beginner with the lathe, and it is worthwhile to check out his fine furniture with an evocative twist. Expect to be transported to another era and refined way of being with his masterful use and interpretation of use of wood.

Jacob will be here from 10-12noon on the 5th to help you arrange your exhibit. I will be here also.

Would you like to discuss food ideas? I can help in any way, and we have use of my kitchen and fridge upstairs. I think they may have installed the fridge in the gallery, too.

Talk soon,

Angela

PS  I checked my phone, and I didn't put your phone # in it. Can you send it to me again.

Hello Barbara & Richard,

I am thinking of taking fresh-context pictures at the gallery, as an idea. I can make a print and jpg's to mail in no time. Kinkos is around the corner, and I email them the files and have them print them... as an idea.

However, did you want to send these to people far in advance, like a week vs a day?

I am working on getting a website up and running for this gallery. This is the domain name, and logo that we have come up with, and I designed.

If you need anything, let me know!

Here is this.  I don't know if this means Avesta wants more of a hands off approach or more of a "we are involved in everything" approach.  Love how she left that vague.

Hope you are having a good day.

T.

Hi Tanya-

I think that having the gallery open during the Arts Festival is a great idea and something we can talk about at the next resident council meeting.

In terms of the placard for the First Friday Artwalk, unfortunately the metal work frame is too expensive. The sign that we made last month was obviously meant to be temporary…just wanted to get something out on the street directing people to the building. I think an important topic for the next resident council meeting would be differentiating the role of Avesta and the artists in promotion of the gallery.

Thanks again for your ideas and commitment to the building and the gallery!

Hi Ladies,

Just a heads up that the annual Arts Festival where they close down Congress for the day is coming up at the end of August on the 25th which is a Saturday.

http://www.wcsh6.com/life/community/events/art_festival/default.aspx

It would be in our best interests to use that day to promote the Gallery as much as possible.  Whoever is showing that month might want to consider having the Gallery open all day since it is such a huge event.  The largest outdoor art show in New England I believe they say.  If the curator for that show is unavailable I would be willing to volunteer to staff the Gallery that day.  It might even be good to have more than one Oak Street Resident down here that day to monitor the doors and make sure no one sneaks into the upstairs.

As far as the standing placards that we need to place at the corners of Congress and Oak, were you able to reach the Stainless Steel artist who designed the swirls on the garage?  I have spoken with Angela and we both think it would be really great to tie the signs to the building someway - also if they were made of stainless steel they would be sturdier than a wooden placard holder, they would last for years...although they might be a little bit more expensive.  In order to promote the gallery as much as possible on First Fridays it would probably be in our best interests to have two signs, one for each side of Congress, pointing towards us.  Even if they were a base metal with just swirls/circles it would tie in with the building.  A big white piece of poster board with magic marker on it pointing towards our space is not professional, I am not sure if there is anything anywhere in the non-existent budget that would allow for something nice, but it sure would help us out.

Angela is going to include some tips for self-promotion in the next newsletter, suggestions on creating postcards/posters to get the word out.  While it is important to cultivate connections with local galleries such as SPACE having some sort of grass-roots campaign for each show would benefit the artists as well as the Gallery.

Just a few thoughts, hope you are having a good weekend!

hi,

perfectly vague - couldn't be more, exactly, vague!

I asked her about internet, and she said she is talking to her tech guy, and that it will always be a slow dial up as it is a money issue, and apparently us chipping in to pay a little more is not ok, but we can each pay a lot more individually.

totally chipping away at the green credentials of this building, the way it is bungled is low income service (let them have an internet that doesn't work) and politics ruled by people that do not exist.

it's actually mortifying, and vague.

thanks for all the info you sent my way. i am taking a wee nap and feeling diagonal. i have been on the 6am shift, and do it again tm. need more naps...

I think we just handle it. If you want and can be there, I say step forward and tell cheryl that is the way it is going to be. Usually I work some part of the weekends, but it is usually a mid-day start to a 4pm start. We can definitely have t shirts by then, and we can get marketing materials.

one of the things i am waiting for is a july 4th sale. online, i suspect, there will be deals ...

Just wanting to check in about the newsletter. Are you still working on the July one? Just let me know J

I am also going to be out of town next week (wed-Friday) and so Cheryl will need to be your main contact for First Friday. Everything going okay with that too?

Hi,

I need to get a resident interview. I may hang out in the gallery.

Every thing is good. Perhaps I can get this to you tomorrow.

Me-shell is/ was a little disturbing. About the parking. I was very clear, and it was in writing. I think she was just testing the fabric. She responded to me retracting the offer by ... sending me texts that made it seem my communication wasn't clear or that she was unaware. So, I ignored them. Then she tossed the egg carton down the hallway, in which I brought her farm fresh eggs.

Juvenile, immature. Kinda don't want to deal with her.

I picked up her garbage, and I won't give her anymore, so that should be the last that I am obligated by affiliation to pick up for her.

I've been working 6am shifts and feel a little diagonal, but tm is my day off.

We'll talk soon, and have a nice time off!

Hey there,

I was wondering if you would still like me to take some photos on Thursday morning at 10am?  I think that was when you needed it, I can be there for an hour that morning if you still need me.  I just can't remember if we ever confirmed it.

Hope all is well.

Happy Friday Night too...

ps.

I am in the lobby because it is cooler and the internet works down here all the time.  I might consider just sleeping down here.  I mean, the sofas can't be all that uncomfortable, right?

Hello,

It is good to know about the internet down there. It is maddening in my apartment. At times, I get 3 seconds of connection before I need to log on again, or it is so slow that a page won't load, an email won't send, but it won't say there is no internet connection.

Thursday at 10-12 I know they are going to be here with Jacob to set up, and probably longer on their own. If it is inconvenient for you, I have the day off, and can take some pics. My aim is to get some fresh context pictures of them and their work / at work, and use that at promo's for the gallery /first friday.

If you feel like stopping by and if this interests you, come add your energy!

I went to the wood school open house tonight in rockland and met someone that knows all about artists applying for grants. I asked if I could follow up and pick her brain for resources to include in our website/ newsletter.

happy friday, toooooo!

Tanya,

How's it going. I called roadrunner, haven't heard back. The internet didn't work, period, this morning...

The website is going to need to wait for a pay-day or two, as I need to upgrade my software to download an ftp compatible with my os (operating system) to upload a (f*cking) website. . . . I love to spend an entire day meddling on the internet to no avail, and that is, should I be able to connect after umpteen tries.

Acid Flyers. com has sent me their 4th of july sale. I want to get with you T or W to see a product I want to use to sell for donations to fund the website (after i get the os to get the ftp to get the website (f*ck!))... But, we can get promotional materials in advance, and July 4th is the day I need to order.

I also want you to look at the mock up of promotional material ie what I have in mind, and if you think it is suitable.

As it is, I still need to make a proto of the product, but I was failing at uploading the website / all day! Tm I'll make the proto.

It is like an EZBake oven in here, minus the tasty treats and happy childhood memories.

Richard and I went up to Bridgton to swim in a lake, that was awesome.  We are good friends he and I, no matter what happens? I guess?  We'll see how that goes.

Now it rained so that makes it a little less oppresssive in general.

I will see you whenever you need me, I have all day Tuesday off I think (so far).  So I can check stuff out on Tuesday, if that works for you.

Today I printed out some photos/images and created some note cards that I am hoping to sell at some point here.

I wanna have you come over to check out my place too!

Take cool showers, drink fresh cool things, spritz yourself with eucalyptus water or something, I dunno, my brain is par-boiled right now.

Be well,

Hello,

We haven't conversed for a while, so I thought I would drop a note. I'm back from the B&B which was a great get-a-way, and fun to make breakfasts for people. Working in the woodshop was an intensive and quite a learning curve as I had the opportunity to struggle and make things happen on my own. Fixed the band saw blade with no manual... fixed my mistakes.

It was really advantageous to have no 9-5 work to get back to, as I could problem solve, one problem at a time.

An older guy, about mid to late 50's... or 60's  was there to make vac-pack meals for his elderly mother. He paints and takes photographs and is an auctioneer in Virginia. We shared some moments, exchanging music from our lap top and he brought me meals every day.

He expressed that he had a crush on me. He also has a wife of 30 years and a daughter that is a heroin addict in jail. Anyway, he came on very strong with texting and emailing after we went back to our other lives. It's an ego boost, however, I also find it annoying. It was dominating and I didn't answer back.

I can't deny the moment. I also can't deny that I rather enjoy my singular life, and there are things I want to do with my time rather than be enamored or adored.

---

I am curating the next art walk on July 6th, and I am working on a website for our gallery / residents. This is what I have come up with so far:

with the  tagline: mighty oaks from little acorns grow.

it might be .org or .com...

the address here is 72 oak street.

I see opportunity in this endeavor to grow and express in my identity. This interests me rather than being romanced off my feet from a person several hundred miles away, with some big issues to deal with... blah blah blah. I guess I have become very practical minded, with my feet on the ground. I don't believe in "love" that way. I am not willing to be swept away by someone elses emotion, in fact, I am annoyed by it... Just because i am single, doesn't mean I am available!

Rick and I will start the prototype of my next project on Monday. It is called Trapezo <Trapezoids are Cool> and it is a shelving unit made of trapezoid cubes. I am using zebra wood on the inside and birds eye maple on the outside. I am also aware that I am building furniture for my contemporary environment, however when I compare my designs to Crate and Barrel, it is not so industrial looking, has more warmth and delight in customization.

It is starting to heat up here, and I feel like a slug. The woman downstairs said that she couldn't imagine me as a slug, but if I were, it was a bright yellow banana slug in a deep red wood forest.

hope all is well~

Those are great, I once had a job that I didn't have to start until Noon or 1:00 and that's exactly what I used to do.  Get up, work out spend 30-40 minutes at the pool, eat and work.

Unfortunately cannot do with Elliot.  I've never worked with anyone who needed as much from me as he does and I don't like it.  But I figure the most I have to put up with it would be about 3 years.  Seems like a lot but isn't when you consider I've already been with him 12!  So it will be fine.

Hey Angela,

I love your enthusiasm with the website and newsletter! Thanks for all of your time and energy, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Just a reminder that before the website goes live, Cheryl and I really need to review it as it is representing Oak Street and Avesta Housing. We also want to make sure that other residents have the opportunity to voice their opinions about a website. If it is going to represent the gallery space, I am sure they will want their voices to be heard (regarding design, content, etc.).

In regards to the newsletter, it is really important that I receive a copy to review before it is sent out to a host of individuals. We really need the newsletter to not only have resident ideas, but to also be a connection between Avesta staff and residents. I know Cheryl had a few things that she wanted to discuss in the newsletter and it would have been nice to have a reminder that we are still looking for First Friday sandwich board ideas. It is also important that if you have concerns (i.e. the website) we discuss how to address it in the newsletter in a constructive fashion. Cheryl is currently working with our IT staff member on a solution for the internet connection. Having this information available for residents may have been helpful in the newsletter, to just let everyone know we take their concerns seriously and are looking into solutions.

Again, I love your enthusiasm but it is important that there continues to be an open line of communication with Cheryl and myself because first and foremost we are a housing agency. Before distributing this to the entire complex, can you add that we are working on the internet issues? Could you also add that we are interested in finding someone to create the sandwich board for First Friday? Let me know J Thanks for your understanding, Angela.

Hi,

My time is really short, and the internet will block me out for 1/2 days at a time, which means I can't send a copy or print one, as I need to send it. I did drop off a hard copy to Cheryl, at Avesta this morning, as I thought you were going to be out of town.

As it is, I can't erect a website with an internet that sometimes gives me 3 seconds of service, without having to log in again. As my budget will allow, perhaps I can get internet service installed.

If you would like something specific in the newsletter, I need to get it before the final hour.

If I need to do promotions for the artists I am curating because a newsletter cannot be printed on your end, please let me know.

Angela,

I would be tired too, especially when the response from management is so lackluster.

"Thanks for all your hard work, BUT...."  why is there always a but?  why?

Pointing out that they are a housing agency?  Oh really?  I thought you guys at Avesta were totally artists...my bad.

Again, your work has been stunning.  What the literal fuck is with them?  If they want that much control over the damn newsletter they should really be doing it themselves.

If I want to start a blog about my experiences living here nothing can stop me.  If I want to write scathing or complimentary commentary about the shows that appear here that is my right.

I guess what I don't understand is are you, Angela, doing this for yourself or for Avesta?  Because if you are doing it for yourself then fuck them and what they think, and more power to yah as far as that goes.  I do understand that we are somehow going to have to do a nasty little dance for these people to keep them content but that doesn't mean I have to like it.  They have final say?  Over a site that their residents are creating?  Are they going to start making my eggs for me and taking my photos as well because they don't like what I am creating?  Super bad vibes.

If you are paying for it, for hosting it, and you have done the work to get it going, why does it have to be "happy fun time collaboration land"?

Please create something for outside the building to put next to the buzzers!  I am going to make something with one or more of my pieces and bring it to the next meeting so that we establish that as a rotating space.  I am going to bring my own drawings of what I think the sandwich board should look like too.  What the hell.

As far as I am concerned that letter from Megan was sort of demeaning.  Maybe it is where I am right now.

Have a good night Angela, I just hope that they don't stamp out your spark before something good gets accomplished.

Be well,

t.z.

ps.

my neighbor Melissa tells me that 645 Congress had the same shitty internet service, and she has gotten her own service since she moved here.  With everyone getting their own service because it is so bad, shouldn't the internet be running like a top?

It was a good show last night, congratulations on our first curated exhibit!  I hope that Richard and Barbara were pleased with their turnout.  It seemed like they had way more viewers than last months show.

We might want to mention having a guest book for each artist at some point.  It is a great way to make some connections, collect emails or whatever, and you never know where those connections might lead.

good morning.

first friday started off slowly, however there were waves of people coming into the gallery, and the door were propped open after 8pm, and there were more waves of people.

at the end, after hours, barbara had a conversation with a doctor and his wife to do art for a hospital, and richard had a conversation with a potential buyer for the table.

they were pleased, and expressed it. i said we should do it again ... and they liked that idea.

i want to make banners or something colorful for the light post. we can talk about it at the res mtg.

honestly, i probably will do it after me-shell's show. (i don't get what is in her head, however she acts like she is so superior to me, when she is actually insulting looking down the crooked shank of her nose - anyway - i just find it weird to interact with her... not that we are interacting, but whatever is taken place to avoid each other -- her with her assumed but very questionable superiority, and me with a desire for peace, but not understanding what professionally self-proclaimed personality without their feet on the ground am i dealing with today.

there will be no meeting of the minds over an issue that involved reading and hearing clear words ie mine about the parking space that have morphed into convoluted and Professional! egg cart tossing, and superiority complex for a hierarchy of rank, order, and file, that does not exist. And, let's not forget the double agent without a cause. I guess I should be flattered that someone finds it so compelling to know if I am up to something creative or not, that they go out of their way to check it out like a predator stalking its prey.  i think she may be a candidate for dementia.

back to the real gallery show / ideas>>>>

also, it would be great to have a gallery guest book, so that i can collect emails for the newsletter and gallery announcements. i did get a few last night. perhaps the website can have an email solicitation, too.

propping the doors, both of them during open gallery hours and nice weather seems very inviting. we need a physical sign on the door that it is the gallery/entrance.  our entrance is very nondescript, and people get confused even when i send them over, they think the show is ingrid's display.

more vendors on the street! to draw people to oak street.

thanks for your alignment. it's satisfying to get a little lift-off per our efforts. (it can be done!)

a little laundry, cleaning, r & r, and another go!

if you have ideas for the banner, i have rip stop nylon fabric, the kind used in making kites, and of course I can screen print, too ....

yeah, we need outstanding buttons!

cheers!

My website plans are down because mac going from mobile me to icloud means that the iweb ftp i used to previously upload websites does not work with my os, and an os upgrade to download an ftp for os 10.5 or later (which is all that is available) is $200.

You would think that mac would have provided an ftp for previous users and supporters of their bellwether software. It is quietly unfair to be so exclusionary to their very own customers: A voice on the internet costs $200 at least.  My current (old) os works just fine ...

That said, I am thinking I can get a new computer for 600, and it can be dedicated to building the website.

You are on the docket to be paid for the domain with my July 19th paycheck.

Thanks!

Angela

Hi Angela-

Congratulations on your  successful 1st First Friday.

As I mentioned previously, cyberduck and FireFTP are FREE. I do not

use iCloud/Lion, just like you (& for similar reasons, though I have

no ill will toward Apple, a 100% transparent for-profit corporation).

Yes, you can get a nice used macbook for $600, running a newer OS that

will support iCloud. If you're not using 10.5 (at least), you're doing

yourself a disservice as the newer OSes are much more reliable and

faster. I personally am on 10.6.8, but see no reason currently to

upgrade to Lion. I've had very good luck buying used computers on CL:

http://maine.craigslist.org/sys/3081610133.html for example.
